In this study, we developed an experiment system that couples a living creature with a virtual environment by using optogenetics. We focused on the chemical plume tracing (CPT) behavior of a silkworm moth. By replacing pheromone stimuli with light pulses using optogenetics, we achieved fine control of stimuli in both time and space domains. Preliminary results suggest that certain body functionalities play an important role in solving a CPT problem.
