A reformulation of nonlinear complementarity problem is proposed for solving the frictionless contact problem in large deformation with an warm-start strategy. We treat the smoothing parameter of the smoothed Fischer-Burmeister function as an independent variable in order to reduce the complementarity problem to a system of nonlinear equations. Then the obtained nonlinear equations are solved by using the Newton method making use of the information obtained from the solution at the preceding loading stage. In numerical examples we demonstrate that in many cases the solution can be found within four Newton iterations.
